|
On Sunday, 2nd May, 2004 there will be a gathering of descendants of John William Walker, born Leith, Scotland (8th May, 1799 - 30th November, 1875) by his second wife, Elizabeth Waterson (16th August, 1805 - 10th May, 1863) There are no descendants of his first marriage to Elizabeth Manning nor by his third marriage to Catherine Bell. The gathering will be at the Yaralla Estate in Concord – the home of his nephew Thomas Walker (President of the Bank of New South Wales) and Thomas's daughter, Dame Eadith Campbell Walker, D.B.E. This date will mark the eve of the 200th anniversary of the birth of Thomas Walker. Entrance to the estate is through the gates at the end of The Drive, where it crosses Nullawarra Avenue, Concord West. Parking is on the left side of the driveway, between the outer gates and the inner gates. The stables are located just through the inner gates and to the right. The gathering will commence at 11:00 am in the Stables/Coachhouse, Complex, where the Concord Heritage Society has a museum devoted to Thomas and Dame Eadith Walker and the Yaralla Estate. It is suggested that family members bring a picnic lunch. The house is currently used as the Dialysis Unit for Royal Prince Alfred Hospital but the Concord Heritage Society has received permission to take people through between 12:30 and 2:30 pm on the day. The grounds, of course will be open all day and the Concord Heritage Society will supply guides for tours through the house and around the grounds. Devonshire Teas will be served by members of the Concord Heritage Society at the Stables complex from 2:00 to 3:30 pm. We are asking for a contribution of $15.00 to cover all costs. Profits will go to the Yaralla Restoration Fund, which is administered by the Concord Heritage Society. For further information contact Alec Walker: (O2) 9398 2363
The information provided will assist in compiling a complete up-to-date family tree. If you would like to be included on the Family Tree but are unable to attend the gathering, please complete the registration form, but indicate that you will be unable to attend.
